Have Digital Images Killed The Print

Today’s post is more of a suggestion than a complete informational message.  It never fails to amaze me that most of the images we see today never make it any further than Facebook or even worse … the back of the camera.  Why has printing seem to drop off over the years?  What happened to the days when you were on pins and needles waiting for your 4×6 or 5×7 prints to come back from the lab? There was a bit of anticipation and excitement in waiting to see what the images would look like. Today part of that excitement has been killed off by digital.  You know exactly what that image looks like by looking on the back of your camera. Anyway you have a pretty good idea of what it will look like when made larger. But the question remains, “Should digital images stop you from printing?”  Absolutely not!
I recently had a friend go to her nearest pharmacy to do a quick print and she happened to receive images she ordered from Mpix on that same day.  It was fantastic to see the joy and excitement on her face as she opened the images and sat down to put them in frames.  Needless to say the difference between the pharmacy printed print and the Mpix printed print was vast.  Unless I’m printing albums for a client I almost totally use Mpix for my prints I hang in my own home. Getting your prints done with an actual lab like Mpix or White House Custom Colour is crucial to the longevity and the beauty of your prints.  Today instead of giving you 100 reasons to get your images printed and printed in a lab I want to challenge you and share something with you.   The challenge, if you choose to accept it, is to take an image you like from your camera phone or camera and take it to your local pharmacy to get a 4×6 print (get only one because I really don’t want you to waste a lot of money to have an awakening when it comes to printing your images).  Take that same image and send it to Mpix by using there online upload tool and get a similar size printed.  Enough said.  You will see the difference. By the way, Mpix also has an mpix app that will allow you to order directly from your mobile device.  Go to their site and register as a customer to receive their almost weekly deals.  I think you will be pretty pleased with their selections.
